Personal Hackdays #4 - Minecraft Bike

For my fourth hackday in 2020 my kids had been playing a lot of Minecraft and I started getting the idea that maybe I could rig up a bike to physically pedal and ride through Minecraft.

I was under the impression I could replicate the functionality of a bike computer and use a hall effect sensor with a magnet ( or magnets ) on the bike wheel.   This way I could detect pulses from the sensor and calculate how fast the wheel was spinning.   Maybe use a potentiometer connected to the handlebars in some way to detect turning angle.   I was not 100% sure how to wire that up to Minecraft though.

As it happens there may be other more tightly integrated ways but this was the approach I took.
